IQNA – A Lebanese analyst said Iran’s missile and drone attack against the Israeli regime last week changed regional equations and created a new deterrence.

Iran launches retaliatory missile and drone attack against Israel

On April 1, the Israeli regime committed a terrorist attack against Iran’s diplomatic premises in the Syrian capital Damascus.

The Israeli attack resulted in the martyrdom of Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a commander of the Quds Force of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), his deputy, General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, and five of their accompanying officers.

Retaliating against the attack, the IRGC targeted the occupied territories late on Saturday with a barrage of drones and missiles. The retaliatory attack, dubbed Operation True Promise, has inflicted damage on Israeli military bases across the occupied territories.

Following the reprisal, Iran both relayed the message that it viewed the matter as “concluded,” and also warned of a “bigger” response in case the regime or its allies target Iran.

In an article, Lebanese analyst Jihad Haydar said that by carrying out the operation, the Islamic Republic managed to create a new deterrence equation in the region.

He said Israeli thought Iran would respond to the attack on its diplomatic mission in Damascus via its allies, including resistance groups in the region but the Iranian leadership insisted on responding from the Iranian territory.

This took the enemy by surprise and shattered its calculations, he stated.

The Israeli regime realized that when Iran reacts to an indirect attack in such a way, it would certainly respond much more fiercely to any direct strike on its territory, the analyst said.

He added that Iran also managed to reach its goal and send its message to the enemy without an immediate reaction from Israel and the US and without letting it to lead to a big war.

Iran emerged victorious in the battle of wills with the US and the Zionist regime, Haydar underlined.

The Islamic Republic managed to turn the threat created after the strike on its Damascus diplomatic mission into an opportunity to change the equations in the region in its favor, he went on to say.

He also noted that while Iran used only a fraction of its capabilities in the Operation True Promise, it could expose the weakness of the Israeli enemy.
